چکیده

The Integrated Multi-Satellite Retrievals for Global Precipitation Measurement (IMERG) V06 product has been widely studied, but the errors and source of within IMERG over diverse climate regions still need to be quantified. To this end, final run gauge-calibrated (V06C) uncalibrated (V06UC) products are comprehensively evaluated here against 2088 precipitation gauges acquired between March 2014 June 2018 China. Moreover, V06C V06UC rainfall estimates compared Estimation from Remotely Sensed Imagery using Artificial Neural Networks (PERSIANN)-Climate Data Record (CDR) Climate Prediction Center morphing technique (CMORPH) gauge-satellite blended (BLD) products. Continuous statistical indices two error decomposition schemes used quantify their performance. Key results as follows. (1) Except V06UC’s relatively high underestimation Tibetan Plateau (TP) overestimation Xinjiang (XJ), Northeastern China (DB), Northern (HB) CDR’s severe TP, all four satellite-based can generally capture spatial pattern agree better with gauge observations humid than semi-humid, semi-arid, arid regions. (2) All indicators show that CDR worst performance, whereas BLD is best product. As products, improved estimate. Results calibration algorithm (GCA) in active effect terms r, POD, CSI. (3) Within subregions, demonstrate performance XJ region which exhibits highest FAR lowest POD CSI values among (4) In intensity distribution, summer China, overestimate frequency moderate light events (<25 mm/day) underestimate heavy (>42 mm/day). (5) relative bias ratio (RBR) analysis shows contribution missed tends lower wetter addition, same region, clearly winter. summer, false dominates total error, leading sources Future refinement efforts should focus on decreasing winter improving snow during

Evaluation of Satellite Rainfall Estimates over the Chinese Mainland

Benefiting from the high spatiotemporal resolution and near-global coverage, satellite-based precipitation products are applied in many research fields. However, the applications of these products may be limited due to lack of information on the uncertainties. To facilitate applications of these products, it is crucial to quantify and document their error characteristics. In this study, four sa...

Comprehensive Evaluation of Two Successive V3 and V4 IMERG Final Run Precipitation Products over Mainland China

The Integrated Multi-satellitE Retrievals for Global Precipitation Measurement Final Run (IMERGF) product has now been upgraded to Version 4 (V4), which has been available since March 2017. Therefore, it is desirable to evaluate the characteristic differences between the V4 and the previous V3 products. A comprehensive performance evaluation of the errors of the successive V3 and V4 IMERGF prod...

Comprehensive Evaluation of High-Resolution Satellite-Based Precipitation Products over China

Characterizing the errors in satellite-based precipitation estimation products is crucial for understanding their effects in hydrological applications. Six precipitation products derived from three algorithms are comprehensively evaluated against gauge data over mainland China from December 2006 to November 2010. These products include three satellite-only estimates: the Global Satellite Mappin...

Evaluation of Satellite-Based Precipitation Products from IMERG V04A and V03D, CMORPH and TMPA with Gauged Rainfall in Three Climatologic Zones in China

A critical evaluation of the newly released precipitation data set is very important for both the end users and data developers. Meanwhile, the evaluation may provide a benchmark for the product’s continued development and future improvement. To these ends, the four precipitation estimates including IMERG (the Integrated Multi-satellitE Retrievals for the Global Precipitation Measurement) V04A,...
